Welcome parents! I hope you will find this information helpful, not only to provide resources for you to help your children succeed in our class, but also for communication.
Study Strategies

No particular strategy fits all. New research is showing that the idea of "multiple intelligences" is changing. That said, we do have multiple modalities that help up to learn things in an easier way. We are not simply auditory or visual learners. We learn in multiple ways, but we are stronger with some modalities than others. A combination of these will help. If your child excels at music, have them put their memorization to a tune. If they remember pictures, have them study with visual representations of their vocabulary words. And so on. Here are some good websites to get you started:
Class Procedures
-
We always have homework and the homework is always posted on this page and on the homework board in class. On a rare occasion, we will not have homework - perhaps 5 times, if that many, in an entire academic year. Learning a language requires practice, and homework provides that practice.
-
We check and go over the homework daily. The homework must be complete and in good-faith effort for it to receive credit. It is NOT necessary to get everything correct to get the credit, but we do check for effort and not just simply writing anything down.
-
We test for oral proficiency on a weekly basis. Therefore, speaking in class and practicing outside of class is extremely important. "Hiding" due to a feeling of embarrasment or inadequacy will only have your child miss out on opportunities to practice the oral work.
-
We test (writing/listening/oral/reading) once every 6 weeks. We have a project due about once every 5-6 weeks, as well. We quiz about once a week.
