A world traveler, Gonzalo del Real (a.k.a. Profe) was raised in different countries and in three different languages. Although born in Chile, his family when he was only 2 years old due to the militay coup of 1973. He was raised in Venezuela until the age of 9, when he and his mother came to the United States. After obtaining her graduate studies, they returned to Venezuela. After another two years, Profe returned to the USA, where he finished out his high school studies at South Salem High School in Salem, OR. While there, he also spent a summer abroad in Belgium, where he took French classes in Waterloo. He attended Willamette University and, after two years, transfered to Winston-Salem State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, cum laude, with a minor in French. He then moved back to Oregon where, after finishing the MBA program, he decided his true passion was in languages and teaching. He received a Master of Arts in Spanish in 2000, and his Graduate Certification in Secondary Education in 2001. All three programs were done at the University of Oregon. Profe also spent a year in professional studies at Stanford University. He also had seminary studies in the Permanent Diaconate Program at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. He hopes to transfer his credits to the diocese of Allentown and be ordained as a Deacon by 2018. He is also the Deputy Grand Knight at the Knight of Columbus Council 313.
His passion for education stems from his life experience. He started tutoring in the 9th grade, helping middle schoolers in the computer lab. By the time he was a Junior in High School, he had a steady tutoring job, working weeknights 3-5 times per week. This extended not only to tutoring in college, but also being a Teacher Assistant at Willamette University when only a Sophomore. He has taught middle school, high school, and been an adjunct and senior instructor at the university level. His high school experiences have been the most rewarding, teaching at public, charter, parrochial, boarding, and independent day schools. His teaching extended into coaching, where he has led teams to district championships, as well as regional and state tournaments in both Tennis and Soccer. If anything, Profe is a passionate man. He is passionate about education, international and intercultural understanding, soccer, his faith, and literature, to name a few. He is also a Star Wars fanatic, a Tolkien devotee, and a Medievalist at heart. He created the advanced college-level curriculum of the Spanish program at Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches from its inception, encouraging and leading students to do college and graduate level work through a project-based curriculum. He now teaches Spanish at Moravian Academy, including the AP Spanish Language and Culture class, and lives in Bethlehem with his wife, AnneMarie, and his three children, who also attend Moravian: Josh, Jake, and Arwen.
